Through the eyes of a Qubool Hai addict!

Qubool Hai of the past! -

“Jo chahat hai use paane ki taakat dena,

Jo kismet hai use qubool karne ki himmat dena.”

And with this dialogue Qubool hai had me hooked to it like a moth is to fire. With the opening scene itself the show had left me wide-eyed and in awe.  It had everything that is needed to make what I would call a perfect daily soap.

A stellar cast – check!

A unique and different storyline – check

A production house that is known to create magical romance – check

A stunning lead with mind blowing acting skills – check check check.

The one thing that attracted me to it was the story. A Muslim background may not be unique but it is definitely rare. Not only the background but it was the entire plot which made Qubool hai different from other shows. How often do you see the hero almost running down the heroine with his car? How often do you see the heroine staying over at the hero’s house before marriage? Yes these little things are what made Qubool hai so loved and cherished by all be it young or old. The show was a complete package – it had drama, romance, angst, comedy and tragedy. Every episode left you feeling various different emotions all at once. Yes the show also had some typical misunderstandings between the leads but in between all their silly banter one cannot help but smile at Zoya’s nonsensical yet hilarious shayaris and roll their eyes heavenward at Asad’s stern demeanor and OCD-iac habits.

All Gul Khan needed to do was show one “mitwa scene” and leave us all in a puddle of our own drool. Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti took the characters of Asad and Zoya to a whole new level, they made the characters feel alive and the proof of their exceptional acting would most definitely be “Mangalpur”. So well directed and executed were the Mangalpur episode and now Qubool hai is divided into Pre-Mangalpur and Post-Mangalpur. Mangalpur marked the beginning of AsYa’s journey on this path called true love. It brought them one step closer to each other, it lead them to believe that they couldn’t stay apart, that even the thought of being away from each other was excruciating.

After Mangalpur we had another milestone in QH, the time when under intoxication AsYa let out all their hidden desires and feelings, when unknowingly they blurted out the feelings they felt for each other. It was also the time when Asad’s childhood best friend Tanveer comes into picture with a hidden motive behind her visit, her visit paves way for the green-eyed monster and it is endearing and even sad to watch Zoya being her silly self to grab Asad’s attention while Tanveer trying to create distance between them.

But Qubool Hai is not only romance; the tension between the two families and Zoya’s constant search for her long-lost abbu is what brought a flow to the show and did not let it stick to being a cheesy serial. Qubool hai of the past was always well balanced with a fairly just distribution of Khan Mansion and Siddhique Mansion scenes along with the various emotions that one can feel. It had AsYa go through all the trials and tribulations, they witnessed pain, love, separation and reunion together which only got them closer still strengthening their bond and relationship.

Qubool Hai of the present -

But when the moth flies too close to the flame, we all know what happens: it gets burned, incinerated by the very thing that drew it near. And even Qubool hai being the flame that attracted us eventually burned our hopes and dreams by showing the most dreaded Zoya-Ayaan accidental nikaah; and since then our QH was the not the same anymore, everything went downhill with that. From the accidental nikaah shown in the most illogical way to the news of the replacement. With Karan Singh Grover being replaced by RaQesh Vashisth the moths which were still alive had died, their wings burned and withered and their dreams shattered beyond repair. Some accepted the change, some moved on, some pretended that Qubool Hai never existed while there were some who preferred to hang on to that last thread of hope, the thread was gossamer thin like the web of the spider yet they had enough hope to salvage the few months left of the show.

Qubool Hai for me had died a long time back but being addicted to it, I stuck with the show hoping for it to regain it’s lost glory. When you spend almost a year and half shipping a particular actor it takes a great amount of strength to accept someone else and being trampled upon various times in the past I no longer have that strength to accept “change”. Qubool hai isn’t the same for me, it lost it’s charm but even after being let down several times I never lose hope and pray to get back the show I fell in love with, the actors I fell in love with, the story I fell in love with. The future is not set on stone, no one knows what’s in store for us fans but I as a viewer of Qubool Hai will always wish only one thing – To get a glimpse of the Qubool Hai of the past in the Qubool Hai of the future!

  1. Nice post. I stopped watching Qubool Hai completely, even though I was soo much addicted to it before. I agree after Zoya- Ayaan Nikah the show lost its glory.

  4. Excellent article Sadhna but unfortunately i don't think ZEE realises what a horific mistake they have made. It was beautiful till they started having ideas of trying to run it for 1000 episodes and started bringing illogical tracks to extend the storyline. That eventually frustrated not only the fans but also the lead who could not comprehend their idiotic tracks hence started voicing out his frustrations. That got him deemed unprofessional and thrown out. Don't hope for much now.

  7. Beautiful Post My Dear... You penned down all sentiments . The question now is ..Why this happened ?. Answers to this Zee cannot give anymore due to multiple bias decisions made on their part ..Can Qubool Hai ever be resurrected again ?.. The answer is a simple "Yes" and only a phone call away with " Karan Singh Grover" .on the receiving end ..

Acting wise Zoya's acting little bit dropping think because of artificial chemistry between new Asad. She is a Good newcomer in recent years we having.
